Holland
Commute

Think about bike-riding, and your thoughts may soon drift towards the Netherlands, Europe’s most densely populated country, where millions of people travel by bike every day.

It was my own passion for cycling that drew me to the Dutch city of Utrecht when I decided where to go for my semester abroad. And the Netherlands didn’t disappoint me: This is a country that is committed to providing an adequate infrastructure for cyclists and making it as attractive as possible for people to commute by bike.

The Netherlands has an extensive network of cycling paths, which are often physically separated from roads. Utrecht train station alone, for example, has more than 12,500 bike parking spots. As a result, there are now more bicycles in the Netherlands than people. I hope you’ll enjoy my impressions from my time in Holland, a paradise for bike riders.
