Bye-bye!
Leaving the
pandemic behind

The days are getting longer, there’s green sprouting all around us, and we’re dusting our bikes off for all of the tours we’ve only been dreaming about in winter. This is our spring awakening, year after year. But hang on – wasn’t there something different this year? That’s right, there was a global pandemic that’s been turning our world upside down.

Despite the tragic circumstances, the Covid crisis has made cycling particularly attractive this spring. People are rediscovering bicycles – long-standing symbols of freedom and individualism – during these difficult times, both as means of transport and for exercise. Bike shops can’t keep up with demand, workshops are a lot busier than usual with repair work, and a study conducted by ETH Zurich has shown that the use of bicycles has increased throughout Switzerland. There’s something positive in everything!

Wedged between rocky mountain faces, the Klöntalersee lake mirrors the mountains and sky. Unforgettable impressions in any weather!

But don’t worry: There’s plenty of space for everybody along the country’s roads, passes and trails. And so we too hop onto our bikes, enjoy the spring days, feel the fresh wind in our faces and cycle to leave the pandemic behind, if only for a few hours. The first passes in the lower Alps are already open, at least for cyclists, and the valleys are particularly stunning at this time of the year. Even if you have to carry your bike across a patch of snow here or there. But the spring sun warms your skin, and the world’s your oyster.

Take in the joy of spring, head off to the mountains!

We hope you’ll enjoy these pictures from our bike rides through the Alpine foothills in the Glarus region. Riding across the little-known Pragel Pass is a particular highlight. After cycling through charming meadows and woods you’ll reach the delightful Klöntalersee lake. But that’s only the beginning. From the lake, a steep and narrow road winds its way up to the pass. Enjoy the thrill of the downhill run towards Schwyz, and if you still have energy to burn, take Axenstrasse road back and tick off Klausen Pass on the way.

And the best: Pragel Pass is closed for cars and motorcycles on weekends!
